Welcome to the School of Artificial Intelligence of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen!

As we transition into a new era where AI drives human progress and civilization, the School of AI (SAI) is committed to addressing the world’s critical strategic needs, advancing the international frontiers of artificial intelligence, and developing AI technologies with societal impact. Grounded in the strategic development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and leveraging the industrial strengths of the vibrant Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the School builds on the strong academic foundation of CUHK-Shenzhen. SAI’s primary mission is to cultivate an interdisciplinary and innovative learning environment that provides students with a solid foundation in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and cognitive science, enabling them to fully understand the principles and applications of AI, and allows our faculty members to flourish and contribute to AI research and education. Our aim is to establish ourselves as a leader in AI teaching and research, not only in the Greater Bay Area but also globally.

Our faculty comprises world-class scholars and industry experts from a broad spectrum of fields. The school offers undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs that cover essential AI domains, including machine learning, deep learning, robotics, embodied AI, natural language processing, and ethical AI, applied to fields such as healthcare, business, economics, sciences,  engineering, medicine, and the social sciences. These programs are designed to equip students with both theoretical foundations and hands-on experience.

With the goal of elevating the country’s teaching and research capabilities in AI, the School is dedicated to achieving important breakthroughs with international impact. It aims to foster top-tier professionals, providing a continuous supply of talent and research support for the sustainable development of the AI industry.

The rapid development of AI brings both opportunities and challenges. As a school, we are dedicated to creating an environment where students acquire technical expertise while developing the critical thinking and ethical considerations essential for driving AI innovation responsibly. Our aim is to nurture AI pioneers who will shape the future with integrity, creativity, and a profound understanding of AI's societal impact.

We are on the brink of an AI revolution, similar to the invention of electricity in the 19th century. Like lightbulbs were more than a hundred years ago, LLMs are merely tests of concepts; the possibilities of AI for scientific discoveries and technological innovations are still beyond our imagination.
