Abstract:

Practical skills are an essential part of chemists’ daily routine. Chemistry students are required to master a variety of core laboratory and instrumental skills so that they are able to conduct experiments and investigations with good precision and accuracy. Professionally prepared demonstration videos hosted on an easily accessible platform can allow students to review the details of the essential skills at anywhere and anytime with a few finger taps on their mobile devices. In this project an online learning platform will be created to host a rich collection of previously prepared and newly tailor-produced demonstration videos that covers essentially all core aspects of practical chemistry. The online platform can be accessed by a mobile app with keyword search and electronic tag reading capabilities Teachers may label the apparatus and the instruments with QR codes or RFID tags. Students can easily find and view a particular video by searching the corresponding keywords, or read the electronic tags with the mobile devices. The platform has usage tracking capabilities, so that teachers can easily follow the viewing history and records of the students.
