Guests from 41 World-Renowned Universities Attend CUHK-Shenzhen International Partner Day

December 05, 2019 International Exchange

On November 15, CUHK-Shenzhen held the second International Partners Day, in celebration of the reaching of 100th partner milestone. 53 representatives from 41 universities around the globe gathered on our campus to witness this special occasion, and bring their study-abroad programmes to CUHK-Shenzhen students.

The global partners of CUHK-Shenzhen attending the event included University of Oxford, Yale University, University of Chicago, University of California, Berkeley, University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Australian National University, University of Queensland, National University of Singapore, University of British Columbia and University of Auckland.

As of the end of October this year, the University boasted a total of 100 global partners across 29 countries and regions around the world. It has achieved 160 international cooperation programs, including summer credit courses, student exchanges, overseas research internships, tripartite joint bachelor’s degree programs, and combined degree programs. The proportion of students with experience in overseas credit courses exceeds 60%, topping among domestic universities.

To celebrate the historic "100 Global Partners", Vice President Tom Z.Q. LUO, Vice President K.C. YUEN, and partner representatives broke the "100" ice cube during the event, denoting a new start of the university's internationalization progress.

During the ceremony, Vice President Luo presented commemorative plaques to the University's first international tripartite joint training partners, which are the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada and the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark. Yale University, the 100th partner of CUHK-Shenzhen, was also awarded a commemorative plaque.

Professor James Penner-Hahn, the George A. Lindsay Collegiate Professor of Chemistry and Biophysics and Senior Advisor for International Partnership at the University of Michigan, said in an interview: "The University of Michigan and CUHK-Shenzhen established a partnership in 2017 and students from CUHK-Shenzhen showed great performance in academics, language skills, and adaptation ability to our teaching model. They are very popular with our professors. We look forward to establishing more cooperation projects with CUHK-Shenzhen. "

Christina Estelle Van Der Velde, an exchange student from the University of Auckland, said in an interview with the media: "This exchange experience has broadened my horizons. Shenzhen is a fast-growing city and the University provides us with rich curriculum content. I do appreciate all the good professors, as well as the meticulous support and care from the University ... this is a very wonderful exchange experience. "

In the afternoon, representatives from 41 top universities in the world provided students with on-site information session and face-to-face advice on overseas programmes in the corridor of the Teaching Buildings.

Launched in 2018, the annual International Partner Day event of CUHK-Shenzhen can help with students’ academic career planning with comprehensive and in-depth information of overseas study programs and oppotunities of "close contacts" with world-class universities. At the same time, the universities invited will get a chance to experience the vitality of the innovative city of Shenzhen, which encourage them to deepen exchanges and cooperation with universities and high-tech industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Currently, more than 5,600 outstanding students from all over the world are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. After more than five years of development, the University has established four schools, namely, the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Life and Health Sciences, with 15 undergraduate programmes and 17 postgraduate (master’s & doctoral) programmes. Furthermore, the University is building a world-class team of experts in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence, big data and data science, future intelligent networks, bioinformatics, new materials and energy sciences, international finance and logistics, as well as pharmaceuticals and precision medicine, and international technological innovation platforms in line with the needs of the strategic emerging industries in the Pearl River Delta region and the whole country.
