Another four seasons have passed. Each day in 2021 with UAC Art Courses was colorful. In the past year, Art Courses invited music producer Nencol, playwright Ji Chao, traditional opera actress Yi Yi, the founder of Monkey King Stop-motion Animation Studio Hou Yangjian, and the founders of Dongchang Jewellery Studio Zhang Shuo and Chen Xiaowen shared their views on the beauty of art and explored the mystery of art with us.

2022 will be the year to combine modernity with tradition. There are not only familiar courses like Traditional Chinese Opera Series and Creative Stop-motion Animation but also new courses about documentary filmmaking , improvisational drama, and illustration art, which are deemed to be splendid.

The 11th Art Course invites director Grace Hsia to offer the course of Capture the Beauty of Reality with Documentary Filmmaking , teaching students to tell stories via video art.

Course Material
A mirrorless or DSLR camera, a set of lenses (50mm 24-70mm 70-200mm), an on-camera microphone, a pair of wireless microphones, small fill lights, a camera bag, and a tripod.
The equipment above is for the course and can be purchased individually or in groups (3-4 people). The Art Course programme also has equipment available and can be borrowed on request.

If you have signed up successfully, you are requested to participate in this course on time. If you are absent, you may be disqualified from participating in subsequent University Arts Centre courses. Please arrange your time reasonably and be present on time.

03【Course Objectives】
The course bears the theme of “Capture the Beauty of Reality with Documentary Filmmaking ”. It uses documentary to guide students to think about themselves and the world, discover the beauty surrounding them with broadened views, and cultivate their comprehensive aesthetic ability, life perception, and ability of expression. The course covers documentary theory, thinking development, and filming practice. Students will learn to tell stories via video art and produce a short documentary on their interested topic later in the course, in which they will feel the charm of documentary. The course will inspire students to think about the phenomenon in the society with new views and seize the opportunities to produce more insightful and meaningful content.
04【Speaker】
Grace Hsia
Grace Hsia, a director and playwright, graduated from Beijing Film Academy and Hunan University, majored in film production and visual communication respectively. She started her career in documentary from 2014 with Changsha Trilogy, and worked as a documentary director in Enlight Pictures, producing several documentaries for cinemas. Her short films, Still Home, Broken Flowers, and Silent Storm, won awards in film festivals at home and abroad, including Busan International Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival, Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, LA Shorts International Film Festival, and Flickerfest. Her works focus on human living and emotions in the development of the times. Her films and narration are delicate and fresh, with strength in telling stories about social issues, cross-culture, growth of female and youth.

UAC Art Courses
University Arts Centre will offer courses in a variety of art forms, either credit bearing or non-credit bearing. Artists will be invited to design instructional plans and visiting lecturers and professors will be invited to give lectures. This will reinforce the aim of the Centre, which is to enrich the culture and art atmosphere of the University with artistic activities.
