Abstract:
This lecture will introduce the Speaker’s research lab culture & life, the Speaker’s experience & thinking as a teacher and researcher for more than 30 years. At the same time, the Speaker will take the activation & transformation of N2 as an example to show the Charm of Chemistry.
Speaker’s Profile:
Professor Xi Zhenfeng is currently a Boya Chair Professor of Organic Chemistry at Peking University and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chemistry, Xiamen University in 1983, and his Ph.D. degree at the Institute for Molecular Science, Japan. From 1996 to 1997, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Hokkaido University, Japan.
Academician Xi is the former Director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). He is currently the Co-director of Beijing National Lab for Molecular Sciences, Director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Elemento-organic Chemistry at Nankai University, Director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Recognition and Function, Institute of Chemistry, CAS, and Director of the Academic Committee of MOE Key Laboratory of Bio-organic Phosphorus Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Tsinghua University. He also serves as an academic committee member of several laboratories, including the State Key Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry, the State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, as well as the Key Laboratory of Green Chemistry and Technology.
Academician Xi is a pioneer in proposing and carrying out research on the reagent chemistry of bimetallic organic synthesis. His current research interest is dinitrogen activation and transformation, with the ultimate goal to obtain N-containing organic compounds directly from dinitrogen under mild conditions. He has received several titles and honors, including the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars(1998), Eli Lilly Research Excellence Award in China(2005), Wuxi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award(1st class, 2014),and AkzoNobel China Science Awards in Partnership with the Chinese Chemical Society(2014) .
