Abstract:

In 1920s, a wave of textual criticism of the life stories of ancient literati (including the politicians and masters in literature and art) in academia swept over the nation. The articles did not only appear on the professional academic journals, but also on various newspapers and magazines, signifying a wide spectrum of participants involved. This lecture will delve into these publications, comment on a few typical texts, and discuss relationship in the context of the literary trend at that time. The speech will also expound the significance of and methods in researching ancient literature as well as the changes as a result thereof.
