On September 16, Forbes China announced its “30 Under 30” list for 2021. Jiangfan Yu, assistant professor of the School of Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen has been selected to Forbes 30 Under 30 list for health care and science sector.

According to Forbes China, a total of 300 young people across 10 industries were named to the 2021 list, all of whom are emerging as leading professionals in their industries or show potential to become future leaders in that industry.

Yu Jiangfan

Assistant Professor, SSE

Prof. Yu received his B. Eng. degree from Harbin Institute of Technology (2014), and his Ph. D. degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2018). He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2018 - 2019), and subsequently in University of Toronto (2019 - 2020). He is now an Assistant Professor at SSE, CUHK-Shenzhen, and the Deputy Director of the Micro/Nano Robotics Center of the Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society (AIRS). Prof. Yu’s research interests mainly locate in micro/nanorobotics and medical robotics. Dr. Yu has been extensively working in swarm control of micro/nanorobots, including their fundamental modelling, actuation strategy, motion and reconfiguration control, and biomedical applications.

Professor Yu has published more than 30 papers in top international journals and conferences so far, including Nature Communications, International Journal of Robotics Research, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, Science Robotics, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, and ACS Nano. Several of his journal papers have been indexed as ISI highly cited papers, and have been highlighted in Science, Nature and international press reports, such as CNN. He has also published 1 monograph and several papers on well-renowned international conferences, including ICRA and IROS. Dr. Yu won several impactful awards, including Nature Communications Top 50 physics articles (2018), T-Mech best paper award finalist (2020), CUHK Postgraduate Research Output Award (2018), Hong Kong Young Scientist Award shortlist (2018), and the First Prize of International Bionic Innovation Competition (2019). He is a guest editor for Frontiers in Robotics and AI, and has served as an associate editor for International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots 2019 & 2021, and a reviewer for top journals and conferences, including T-Ro, T-Mech, RA-L, ICRA and IROS.

Led by Prof. Yu, Intelligent Microrobotics Lab (IML) is affiliated with the School of Science and Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. The lab is dedicated to research ranging from fundamental science and physics to technologies and solutions to a series of applications. The current theme of IML centered upon the development of microrobotic systems, actuation and control strategies, vision detection, and cell/tissue/animal trials. The dynamic team aims to take advantage of a multidisciplinary approach in both academic research and down-to-earth solution development for real-world problems.
