The NSFC has initiated application for  application for NSFC Tianyuan Fund for Mathematics of key program of "Mathematics crossing with health "2021. Details of requirements are as follows:

1. Funding fields

The program focus on three typical aspects of auxiliary diagnosis and navigation of diseases, tumor ablation and encephalopathy diagnosis to conduct research on mathematical theories, methods and technologies.

2. Eligibility of applicants

A. Applicants shall meet the following qualifications:

(1) With the experience of undertaking basic research projects;

 (2) Have senior academic title.

B. The research team shall be composed of scholars from different fields including mathematics, medicine and information;

C. The project adopts the dual PI system (the PI ranked first is the overall PI of the project).

3. Funding amount and duration

The funding intensity is 2 million yuan (direct cost) per project for two years (the start time should be 1 Jan. 2022 and finish time should be 31 Dec. 2023) .

4. Procedure of application

    Online application

Applicants shall fill out application forms in Chinese online via the application system (https://isisn.nsfc.gov.cn/) . When filling in the application form, applicants shall follow: for “funding category”, select“数学天元基金项目”; for “subclass introduction”, select “数学天元基金”; for “annotation”, select “数学与医疗健康交叉重点专项”; for Application code 1, select code of mathematics subject.

    Paperless submission

In the stage of submission, applicants shall only submit the online application, without submitting any hard copies.

5. Other requirements

A. This program will not be included the NSFC total number limit;

B. Applicants and participants shall only apply for or participate in one project;

C. The collaborative institutions involved shall not exceed 2 in number;

D. If the project involves ethics or biosafety issues, applicant shall submit approval documents from the appropriate committees. Any requirements of relevant scientific research reviews, please refer to the CUHKSZ’s research review process of each Committee as attached (Annex 2) and send the required materials and forms to each committee’s email address by Aug. 20, 2021 for assessment.

6. Deadline

(1)  Applicants shall submit application forms and upload required supplementary documents online by 24:00 on Aug. 27, 2021, the Schools/Institutions, RAO will review and feedback in turn;

(2)  Applicants shall submit application forms (final version) online by 12:00 on Aug. 30, 2021, without submitting any hard copies.
