Shenzhen Jihua Hospital Project Kicks off

Shenzhen Jihua Hospital, an affiliated hospital of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, held a grand groundbreaking ceremony at Jihua Road, Bantian Street, Longgang District on December 28, 2019. The ceremony was graced by the presence of WU Yihuan, Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen, LIU Ang, Deputy Secretary-General of the municipal government, XU Yangsheng, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, YAO Liang, Secretary of the Party Group of the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, LUO Lexuan, Director of Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, Hu Rulin, Deputy Director of Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, ZHANG Yong, Secretary of Longgang District Party Committee, DAI Jintao, District Mayor of Longgang, and other persons in charge of the participating units.

With a rank of "Grade 3, Class A" according to China's classification, Jihua Hospital is a comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, preventive health care, and rehabilitation. The project aims to evolve into a mega-complex of specialized disease centers based on large-scale shared medical technology platforms. It is supported by a series of planning for its medical application, transportation, land utilization, and green development.Upon completion, the hospital will contribute to the sound and rapid development of Shenzhen's medical and health services, and thus boost the overall improvement of the medical industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As an affiliated hospital of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Jihua Hospital will be planned, designed, operated and managed by the University in accordance with world-class standards. Academician XU Yangsheng, President of CUHK-Shenzhen stated in his speech: "In January this year, Shenzhen Municipal Government, CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen signed a joint agreement to build a medical school at CUHK-Shenzhen. At that time, we promised to build it into a world-class medical school. And a top-notch medical school must entail a first-rate hospital. The construction of Jihua Hospital is one of the most important milestones in the preparation of the medical school. It also represents Shenzhen's efforts to build a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics and will empower CUHK-Shenzhen to better serve the Greater Bay Area. Together with the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, we will seize the opportunity to explore the institutional mechanisms for building apreeminent medical school and hospital in Shenzhen. With advanced infrastructure and management, we will also introduce inspired medical talents to build Jihua Hospital into a real world-class hospital. The CUHK-Shenzhen School of Medicine and its affiliated hospital will ultimately develop into an international first-class medical center integrating high-end medical talent training, advanced medical services, and innovative medical research.
