Master of Economics Joint Programme between CUHK-Shenzhen and University of Wisconsin-Madison Kicks off

The Master of Economics Programme jointly launched by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and the University of Wisconsin-Madison has officially started enrollment in February 2018. The first cohort of students will be enrolled in the fall of 2018. The programme plans to recruit 30 students. CUHK-Shenzhen and the University of Wisconsin will each provide excellent scholarships to outstanding students of ¥ 150,000 and $ 20,000.

 

Graduates who meet relevant credits and study requirements will receive a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. To obtain a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin, students are required to complete relevant master's courses at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Fall) and the University of Wisconsin (Spring, Fall) in the first three semesters, with a minimum of 30 credits, of which at least 21 credits are obtained at the University of Wisconsin. If students complete courses at the University of Wisconsin and continue to complete a one-year course at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen with a minimum of 36 credits, of which at least 18 credits are obtained at CHUK-Shenzhen, they will be given a master's degree from CUHK.

 

It is reported that applicants must obtain a bachelor's degree from a well-known university and have an average score of no less than B (GPA 3.0 or 80 points); have a GRE or GMAT score report within the validity period; and a TOEFL or IELTS test score report during the validity period (English-language applicants excluded). The specific requirements are: TOEFL 92 and above, or IELTS 7 and above. Applicants are required to log on the online application system (www.cuhk.edu.cn/matrix-base/gs/login) to submit materials such as personal resume, personal statements, undergraduate or master degree certificates, and transcripts. Applicants will receive the results of the interview within two weeks of the end of the interview.

 

The cooperation project of the two universities aims to cultivate top-notch economic talents with global competitiveness. The students of this project can not only learn from world-famous economists in the top U.S. university but also can learn China's economic and financial market through lectures and internship in Shenzhen, laying a solid foundation for the theory and practice of China's economic and financial fields.

 

In this programme, the required courses offered by the University of Wisconsin include microeconomics, econometrics, and macroeconomics. Elective courses include macroeconomic policies, economic forecasts, growth economics, game theory and economic analysis, health security economics, and international financial issues. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen offers courses in advanced monetary theory and financial markets, economic quantitative methods, economic business communication and software operations, international finance, modern China's financial market development and challenges, international trade and big data mining. Introduction of University of Wisconsin-Madison

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, or UW-Madison, is located in Madison, Wisconsin, and is one of the most famous public research universities in the United States. It is known as the "Public Ivy League University." UW-Madison’s economics department is world-renowned and tied for 12th place with UCLA, UCSD, and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (UMAA) in the 2017 U.S. News Graduate School of Economics ranking. Most of the graduates from its Masters of Economics programme serve in the world's top financial institutions, internationally renowned companies and government agencies, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), NERA Economic Consulting, Freddie Mac, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, etc.; or study doctoral programs at UW-Madison or other world-class universities such as Yale University, University of Chicago, and University of Pennsylvania.
